Sheffield Locum Group is non-profit making and was established in the mid 1990s
to facilitate mutual support between locum GPs in the Sheffield area. This
website has been developed to improve communication between members and
practices in the region. At present a list of email addresses and contact
details is distributed to local practices every three months.
The group also meets informally on a quarterly basis providing an ideal
opportunity to meet with other freelance GPs and share ideas and experiences.
We endeavour to answer any questions you may have at the meetings and give
guidance to doctors just starting up as locums. There may be occasional
sponsored educational meetings and members will be informed when these are due
to occur.
It is hoped that the website will provide links to helpful resources and other
relevant organisations, some of which may have useful educational value.
The group is currently jointly managed by Steve Moore and Pam Rawlings, both GPs
with extensive locum experience. Membership levels have increased over recent
years and currently there are 26 active members with frequent enquiries from
GPs moving into the area etc.
It is to be emphasised that the Group is NOT responsible for the conduct or
professional supervision of members. Practices are responsible for checking the
GMC/Indemnity /CRB status of any locum GP they choose to deal with. Any queries
or concerns that a practice might have should be addressed directly with the
individual locum; however any general enquiries, serious complaints or concerns
may be dealt with via the locum group email address.
As this website is new, it is hoped that in future it may develop further,
perhaps incorporating a private ‘members only’ area with password protection etc.
